about

Time has stopped. Or is it in a loop? What do Curbs want from us, anyway, then and now? Somehow a Zep-era harmonica break has found its way into a song written in the 1980s but recorded only this year. Like the game itself, Asteroids requires dual tempos—metal sludge and speed-panic. Who is Red Ryder? I could ask but perhaps it’s better not to know. Just sit back and enjoy the marquee moon stereo action. So many understand the link between ramen and bohemianism, but who will speak for Rice-a-Roni? It’s the San Francisco treat that succeeds despite looking like little maggots. Down the coast, the LA Freeway remains a source of aggravation—long burdened by its traffic in egos but now punctuated with a phased drum solo that surely symbolizes—now in the end times-- a fiery arch astride the 405. It’s enough to give you an Apartment Complex, the walls are so thin, the socks are so dirty. Rising tensions and complications within the farfisa of domiciles. WTF? It’s polka time. Step lively…before the certainty of meaningless death! Or perhaps you would rather dance with a 50s’ sock hop tragedy made new wave through the magic of a single riff. Were you expecting a history lesson? Neither was I, nor the sweet chorus and hook of This I Know. What 80s’ action film is more deserving of heavy-ass hauling, pan-pot pandemonium, and a high-octane guitar explosion than Road Warrior? None. The answer would be none.

The poetry and riffage is brutal, efficient, a haiku of sorts, marinated over forty years of boys to men in macho (albeit) ironic solidarity. Macho Haiku. From a Texas that time forgot, ready to fill the digital void between your ears.

SLOPPY FIRSTS is Macho Haiku's first studio-recorded album after an illustrious forty-year career. Emerging from dank North Texas suburbs during the pellucid early '80's, Macho Haiku had several failed attempts at recording their unique acid-flecked sound. The most tragic was the famous "SMU incident" when tapes lovingly recorded in the bowels of the Southern Methodist University recording lab got switched with tapes headed for the de-magnitizer. Legend has it those same tapes were used in the recording of the "Barney" TV pilot soundtrack.

Yet, the Haiku persisted and are proud to share this first album with their eternally patient and always devoted fan-base. Thanks for keeping the faith y'all. We survive.

Macho Haiku Seattle, Washington

Macho Haiku emerged spontaneously at the sludgy bottom of a hastily consumed milkshake. It's been a sticky situation ever since.
